INSTITUTE OF AMERICAN INDIAN ARTS

The new campus design for Institue of American Indian Arts in, Santa Fe, NM was designed by Sinkpe Architects with Edward Fitzgerald AIA.  The Project is on a 140 acre site and includes administrative, academic, housing and support buildings.  The design parti was inspired by the connection of the Native American Culture to the earth.  Buildings where meant to become one with the land, creating a built landscape of forms that reflect and enhance the natural setting.  The master-plan was generated from a central earthen plaza at the intersection of the east / west axis.  Other axis used for organizing buildings and pathways include the winter and summer solstice and the spring and fall equinox.  The new campus provides fine arts studios, library, faculty offices, student housing and dining facilities as well as administrative offices and conference areas.  This is the first permanent home for the Institute of American Indian Arts.
